ANOTHER MARTYR TO BE REMEMBERED, DURING BLACK AUGUST AND BEYOND!
Hugo "Yogi Bear" Pinell, our stalwart comrade who spent the past FIFTY (50) years fighting and resisting behind prison walls, was assassinated August 12, 2015 at New Folsom Prison near Sacramento.
Hugo Pinell now joins the list of Ancestors we honor for their Fighting Spirit of Resistance during "Black August Resistance" and Always.
"Black August Resistance" was originally started in the California prisons system to honor three fallen comrades: Jonathan and George Jackson, and Khatari Gaulden. It was and remains a means of reflecting upon - and renewing a commitment to - the Tradition of resistance to oppression and repression faced by Afrikan peoples around the world. Here in Los Angeles, "Black August Resistance" comprises a month of activities for the collective mind, body and spirit in honor of the sacrifices of Our Ancestors, their Fighting Spirit of Resistance, and those who continue to resist while behind prison walls.
Our hearts are heavy, but our resistance and resolve are steeled. With this in mind, we are fundraising to support a public memorial for Hugo in San Francisco where he grew up.
Donations are tax deductible via FACTS Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization and the fiscal sponsor for this fundraiser.
Thank you for your contribution.

- From Erick Lewis, Huntsville, Alabama - I'm honored in some small way to support the memorial service for Hugo Yogi Pinell, a true soldier and relentless warrior for his people. We should all be grateful that he withstood the test of time, knowing in the end that he would probably be laying down his life because of his commitment, but continued to love his people unconditionally anyway. Sister Kiilu Nyasha, thank you for your long term commitment to the struggle and constant support of our comrade. I admire your dedication.

Hugo "Yogi Bear" Pinell was a true hero, a true warrior, a real revolutionary. He struggled for justice for all people for most of the years he spent in prison. He was the embodiment of love and kept his sense of humor.
