Being a long way from home is never easy, especially when your parents are not in the best of health. I want to share a story with you about a wonderful lady that tirelessly cleans the office at Cake.

Ruby has been living in the UK for a while with most of her family, and she’s been doing really good things for other people - at work, outside work and in her own home. She also teaches children how to be good to others and how to help people that are in need. But this time, it is her who needs your help.

A few months ago her Mum was diagnosed with lung Cancer and since then, life for Ruby hasn’t been quite the same. Her sister looks after her mum back in Colombia (South America), but it is Ruby that helps with the money for medicines, food and general expenses for her mum. Today she’s in a really difficult situation, as the doctor has said that her mum’s chemotherapy isn’t working any longer and her life expectancy is decreasing by the second.

For some, this is just a matter of booking a flight and going straight to the airport so that no time of being with your loved one is wasted, but unfortunately for Ruby, this is not the case. Her salary is not enough to cover the medicines, the food and the cost of her traveling to South America to see her mum, so that’s why I’m being her voice today to ask you all for help. She wouldn’t want your pity but she does need your help.

There’s nothing more heartbreaking than not being able to spend quality time with someone you love, knowing that perhaps this is your last time to see them smile. Ruby’s story is especially poignant for me as my family is also in Colombia, and that’s probably why I can understand even more how she’s feeling right now. A donation that for you might mean a lunch in Tesco’s could actually make Ruby’s dream come true, so please help us in raising enough money to buy Ruby’s flight back home.

Ideally, we want to help her raise £1,300 which is around £2 for every person working in Havas Media Group UK. Anything you can donate, large or small, would be hugely appreciated by Ruby and by myself.
