In this the centenary year, Tom Crean’s granddaughter Aileen, proprietor and chef of Tom Crean Fish & Wine, along with her two sons Cian and Morgan and partner Bill will endeavour to recreate the epic traverse of South Georgia by Shackleton, Worsley and Tom Crean. Sailing from The Falkland Islands, as crew on board the 50' "Pelagic" to South Georgia in the South Atlantic Ocean; a distance of 800 miles. We will sail around the island, visiting various places of historic significance and many areas of importance to the abundant wildlife of the South Atlantic. The highlight of our trip will be a four day ski traverse of the island including a crossing of The Crean Glacier.

  • As a sailor, I am fascinated by challenge, courage and survival. "Terra Incognita" hits all the marks. Having read about the "heroic age of exploration" I feel that those great men are my friends. Scott...Shackleton... Amundsen...Mawson. Tom Crean did what he did just because of the type of man he was. He is my hero of the Antarctic.

  • Good luck to you all and have a wonderful adventure! Here's a guess the quote for you Dad; "She found out that having something to do prevented you from feeling seasick, and that even a job like scrubbing a deck could be satisfying, if it was done in a seamanlike way. She was very taken with this notion, and later on she folded the blankets on her bunk in a seamanlike way, and put her possessions in the closet in a seamanlike way, and used 'stow' instead of 'tidy' for the process of doing so. After two days at sea, Lyra decided that this was the life for her."
